We are currently looking for an individual to join the Industrial Hygienist Compliance Team within our Arizona Division of Occupational Safety & Health (ADOSH) Division, which is tasked with conducting enforcement safety inspections and investigations throughout Arizona of employers' workplaces to determine whether employers are complying with applicable occupational safety and health laws.
This position is responsible for conducting occupational health inspections in workplaces pursuant to the Arizona Occupational Safety and Health Act. This position determines who may act as a company representative during an inspection, and terminates an inspection and obtains a Super Court Administrative Warrant whenever an employer interferes or refuses entry for an inspection. Additionally, this position posts imminent danger notices in workplaces where employees are being exposed to life-threatening hazards and recommends issuance of citations and penalties to employers for violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, Standards and Rules.

- AZ Driver’s License Required
In-State travel is required. Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207 (12). Employees may be required to use their own transportation, as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed.
- The Arizona Occupational Safety and Health Act, Standards, and Rules.
- The Field Operations Manual (FOM) and the Industrial Hygiene Technical Manual.
- Occupational Health Hazards (e.g., dust, mist, fumes, vapors, noise, radiation, hazardous waste, asbestos, biological agents, etc.) and their related toxicological properties.
- Appropriate sampling procedures and analytical methods for evaluating workplace health hazards, including maintenance and calibration of technical monitoring equipment.
- Effective methods of eliminating or controlling occupational health hazards.
- Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Interpreting the laws, standards, rules and operating procedures.
- Recognizing and evaluating occupational safety and health hazards.
- Using and performing a variety of technical monitoring equipment.
- Interpretation of monitoring or laboratory results and calculation of time weighted average exposures.
- Identifying and applying cost effective and appropriate corrective measures to control workplace health hazards.
- Report writing and documentation of case files.
- Communicate effectively through oral, written and electronic communications.
- Interact with public officials during seminars and presentations.
- Maintain composure and deal with irate customers during emotionally charged situations.
- Recognize and engage those with different backgrounds, characteristics, and perspectives to bridge gaps in understanding of differing viewpoints, as well as ensuring persons with diverse perspectives are given the opportunity to collaborate and provide input.
Ideal candidates will have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene from an accredited college or university OR six years of work related industrial hygiene experience providing a broad industrial hygiene knowledge base including chemistry, physics, biology, toxicology and physiology. Appropriate training courses and seminars specific to the field of Industrial Hygiene. Certification in Industrial Hygienist or Technician, Safety Professional or Occupational Health Technologist. Bi-lingual in Spanish.
